Papua New Guinea, a country known for its stunning natural beauty and cultural diversity, has long been beacon of hope for biodiversity conservation and environmental stewardship. This Pacific nation, comprised of lush rainforests, pristine coral reefs, and towering mountains has nurtured a unique approach to preserving its natural resources and living in harmony with nature.
The people of Papua New Guinea have a deep connection to their land and sea, relying on its bountiful resources for their livelihoods and sustenance. This reliance has led to a profound respect for the environment and a commitment to sustainable management practices.
Besides, traditional customs and beliefs have played a crucial role in guiding conservation efforts, with communities taking on the responsibility of protecting their natural habitats for future generations. Melanesians believe all beings, including maters as well as scapes have spirits (souls) and all have equal rights to human beings to exist and therefore, to be respected and protected.
